Important Notice for Homeowners Age 65 & Older; Veterans with Service Connected Disability Rating 50% or Greater; Spouses of Members of Armed Forces or La. National Guard who are Kia/Mia/Pow; or those who are Permanently Totally Disabled

In 1998 and 2006 the voters of Louisiana passed a Constitutional Amendment providing for a freeze on the assessed value of residential property homeowners meeting certain criteria.

To be eligible for this valuation freeze you must:

  • Be receiving the Homestead Exemption.
  • Be 65 years old or older on or before January 1 of the application year and have an adjusted gross income of $71,563 or less as reported on your federal tax return. Bring a copy of your IRS 1040 Form or your annual Social Security Income Statement for verification.

    OR

    Be a veteran of the armed forces with a service connected disability rating of 50% or greater. Bring copy of verification as determined by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs.

    OR

    Be the spouse of a member of the armed forces or Louisiana National Guard who owned & last occupied the property who are: Killed in Action, Missing in Action, or a Prisoner of War for longer than 90 days. Bring copy of verification as determined by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs.

    OR

    Be permanently totally disabled as determined by a final non-appealable judgment of a court or as certified by a state or federal administrative agency.

Bring a copy of verification as determined by court judgment or governmental agency.

File a signed application with the Assessor in the Parish where the property is located.

Please note this freeze applies to your property's assessed value only and not to the millage rate, which is subject to change.
